The number-one complaint. In roughly 70 percent of Murrieta cases, the actual cause is restricted vent airflow, not a failing dryer. Lint accumulates inside the dryer vent duct over years, and when the vent run is long or has multiple bends (common in Greer Ranch and Copper Canyon two-storey homes where the dryer is on the ground floor and the vent runs up and out through the roof), airflow drops progressively. The dryer's own airflow sensor detects the problem and reduces heat output as a safety measure, and drying takes longer.
Diagnosis is simple: disconnect the vent from the back of the dryer and run a cycle. If the dryer suddenly performs correctly, the vent is the problem, not the dryer. Vent cleaning costs $150 to $250 depending on the length and access. Compared to the $180 to $400 heating element replacement that would otherwise be diagnosed if the vent problem is missed, this is the single most important dryer diagnostic to get right.
The remaining 30 percent of "takes forever" calls involve genuine dryer problems: a failing heating element (electric), a failing gas valve solenoid or igniter (gas), or a failing high-limit thermostat. These are all diagnosable in the first visit.
